Former FTA Official Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud

Summary

On October 26, in U.S. District Court, Washington, D.C., Shang Hsiung, a former Federal Transit Administration (FTA) employee, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud for his role in a scheme to obtain escort services. Beginning in January 2001 through March 2006, Hsiung engaged in a scheme to use fraudulently created counterfeit checks and stolen credit card numbers, from colleagues at the Department of Transportation and various others, to pay escorts who provided services to him while he was on official government travel. Hsiung used his government issued computer during work hours to search the internet and locate escorts in areas where he was expected to travel while on official government business.
