Summary

On February 22, 2011, Joseph Konrad, an FAA certified commercial pilot and flight instructor, pled guilty to one false statement count. The guilty plea stems from an information that charged Mr. Konrad with false statements related to his application for an FAA Airman Medical Certificate.

In 2007, 2008, and 2009, Mr. Konrad intentionally failed to disclose his diagnosed substance abuse and mental disorder on FAA applications to become a commercial pilot and flight instructor.  In June 2008, Mr. Konrad worked as a flight instructor for FAA approved flight schools in Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey and provided more than 100 training sessions while operating with the false certifications.  He admitted that he did not disclose his medical diagnosis to the FAA for fear the FAA would revoke his commercial pilot and flight instructor licenses.  Sentencing is scheduled for May 2011.

This investigation was conducted jointly with DHS/ICE and the FBI.
