Georgia Men Guilty of Illegally Transporting Fuel

Summary

On July 13, 2012, in U.S. District Court, Macon, Georgia, Enery Perez-Rodriguez and Reinaldo Rodriguez pled guilty for violations associated with the illegal transportation of hazardous materials.  They were previously indicted in November 2011 for the theft of diesel fuel using fraudulent credit cards and the illegal transportation of the fuel in Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama.  The fuel was transported in commercial motor vehicles without the proper placards or the proper commercial driver's license endorsements allowing the transportation of hazardous materials.

The investigation revealed that Discover Card Services contacted the United States Secret Service following their discovery of the use of stolen credit card numbers.  The suspects were observed using the credit cards and then filling multiple vehicles with diesel fuel using storage containers concealed inside the beds of the vehicles.  The fuel was then transported and sold on the black market.

The investigation was worked jointly with the United States Secret Service.
