Summary

On February 20, 2014, in United States District Court, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Javier Alexander Zapata-Isaza, a Colombian National employed by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved foreign repair station operating in Colombia, was sentenced to time served (42 days) and 2 years supervised release for making false statements to the FAA.

Zapata-Isaza falsely obtained the certificate that authorized him to conduct maintenance on commercial aircraft.  However, he did not have the proper training and experience normally required for an A&P certificate.

We investigated the case jointly with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, with significant assistance from FAA.
