Summary

On February 26, 2014, Randy Goldberg, former owner and president of National Moving Network (NMN), a Miami, Florida, based household goods broker, was sentenced in U.S. District Court, San Jose, California, to 18 months incarceration, followed by one year of supervised release in connection with a household goods moving scheme. He was also ordered to pay restitution however, the total amount is still being determined.

Our investigation disclosed that NMN and AY Transport, Incorporated (AY) participated in a "low-ball estimate" scheme. NMN estimators quoted customers a low estimate to move their household goods, and then referred a majority of the moves to AY Transport. Upon taking custody of the customer's goods, AY raised the price to transport the goods to exorbitant rates that far exceeded NMN's published tariff rates.

We have been investigating this case jointly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Internal Revenue Service, with assistance from FMCSA.
