Audit Initiated of DOT's Oversight of Airlines' Frequent Flyer Programs

Requested by Representative Alan Grayson
Project ID:
14A30011A000

Summary

The Office of Inspector General is initiating an audit on the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) oversight of airlines’ frequent flyer programs. We are conducting this audit at the request of Representative Alan Grayson. DOT requires that airlines disclose their frequent flyer program rules and provides guidance to airlines for disclosing costs they may assess related to bookings of frequent-flyer award travel. Accordingly, our audit objective will be to assess DOT oversight of airlines’ compliance with frequent flyer program disclosure requirements.
