Members of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's  Hazardous Materials Safety Assistance Team will conduct a series of hazmat transportation safety workshops in the U.S. Virgin Islands from February 18-21, 2014. The workshops will cover transportation basics for individuals and businesses who are involved with the transport of hazmat in commerce as well as requirements for transporting and requalifying propane cylinders.


St. Croix


PHMSA and the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency will host two free public hazardous materials transportation safety workshops in St. Croix, VI, on February 18 & 19, 2014. The workshops are designed to assist individuals and businesses who package, ship and transport hazardous materials in commerce. 

On February 18, 2014, the workshop will cover general hazardous materials transportation requirements for various modes, types and quantities of hazardous materials, examples include and are not limited to:  Aerosols, industrial and SCUBA compressed gas cylinders, flammable liquids, corrosive materials, lithium batteries, reportable quantities and marine pollutants. The program will feature presentations from PHMSA, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard.

On February 19, 2014, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will be hosting a workshop specifically for the filling, shipping, transporting and requalification of propane and propane cylinders in commerce.  The focus of the propane specific workshop is to outline the requirements of the Hazardous Materials Regulations for propane and propane related items, PHMSA’s safety and compliance mission and lessons learned regarding propane in transportation.
