Volpe, The National Transportation Systems Center, is located at 55 Broadway in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Situated in the heart of Kendall Square, we are across the street from the Marriott hotel, near the MIT/Kendall Square stop on the MBTA Red Line.

Volpe welcomes more than 2,000 visitors every year from government, industry, and academia. International visitors include delegations from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Please note: Official visitors are those who have been invited by a Volpe staff member or on-site contractor. Anyone without a federal government identification badge must pass a security checkpoint. It is the host's responsibility to meet guests uVolpe Visitor Guidepon arrival, or when contacted by a security guard, and to remain with those visitors at all times. Photo identification must be shown at the security desk. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your host, or call the security desk at 617-494-2498. Volpe is wheelchair accessible.

Accepted Forms of Photo ID

As a federal facility, Volpe is subject to the REAL ID Act of 2005. Volpe CANNOT accept driver’s licenses from non-compliant states and jurisdictions for entry into the facility. Please review the list prior to arrival.  All identification presented must be valid (i.e., unexpired) to gain entrance.

Enhanced drivers licenses are accepted from some states; these licenses have “enhanced driver license” prominently displayed at the top. 

Visitors from any of the non-compliant states or jurisdictions will need an alternate form of identification (e.g., U.S. Passport or PIV card) to be permitted entry into Volpe. Foreign guests must use their passports.
