Transportation and Climate Change Clearinghouse
A wide range of strategies are available to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transportation sector. Some of these strategies can be implemented by transportation agencies, and others involve action by industry (e.g., auto manufacturers, freight shippers, airlines, railroads) and the public. The development and implementation may be affected by transportation or environmental policies. This section provides links to research reports and websites related to these various strategies.
The resources in this section address a range of approaches to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the transportation sector.
Fuels and technology strategies are designed to change the emission rates of vehicles either by changing the type of fuel being used, the type of vehicle or emissions control technology, or a combination of both. The resources found in this section address alternative fuels, improving vehicle fuel economy, and the use of technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Surface transportation planning strategies can be implemented through the transportation planning process and are usually initiated by transportation agencies. These include Travel Demand Management (TDM), transit investment, bicycle/pedestrian projects.
