FAA Establishes New Center of Excellence for General Aviation

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected a team of universities to lead a new Air Transportation Center of Excellence (COE) for general aviation. The COE will focus research and testing efforts on safety, accessibility and sustainability to enhance the future of general aviation. Read more.

FAA Design Competition for Universities
Open August 30, 2010 - Closes April 19, 2013

This year there is a new aircraft design challenge in the FAA Design Competition. The challenge is to design an electric/hybrid-electric regional class aircraft with cruise at M#=0.72-8. Aside from designing the propulsion and aircraft system, the design team must also assess environmental benefits and impacts on airport infrastructure and required training and skills for such electric aircraft.
