Summary

OIG responded to a request from Representative Stephen Horn, Chairman of the House Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Efficiency, Financial Management, and Intergovernmental Reform, for our assessment of the Department’s financial management systems. We replied that to complete the annual audit of DOT financial statements in a timely manner, we must receive accurate financial statements from DOT on time. We also said DOT does not yet have integrated systems to identify the full costs of programs and provide timely, accurate, and useful data to support day-to-day management and policymaking.
