Summary

As a follow-up to the Committee’s March 15th hearing, the IG testified before the Transportation and Related Agencies Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee regarding departmental commitments for addressing the growing problem of flight delays and cancellations. We reported that progress had been made on most of the DOT and FAA action items, including: (1) developing a standard DOT definition of flight delays; (2) establishing a system for tracking the causes of flight delays and cancellations; and (3) developing capacity benchmarks for the 31 major airports. Even with this progress, however, we identified a number of areas in which significant work remained.
