Summary

In testimony before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee, the IG outlined several short and long term improvements needed in the deployment and use of advanced security equipment and technology. In the short term,screener proficiency needs to be improved and advanced security equipment currently available needs to be effectively deployed and utilized. In the long term, advanced security equipment capable of screening all passengers, passenger carry-on and checked baggage, airline crews, and others with access to aircraft for all threat objects (knives, guns, bombs, etc.) must be developed and deployed.
