Instructing NHI Courses
NHI relies on quality instructors to deliver engaging training that provides transportation professionals with the skills and knowledge to excel at their jobs. Instructors who work with NHI are experts in their fields and mentors in the classroom. They are Federal employees and contractors from across the country.
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) employees interested in becoming an NHI certified instructor can complete a nomination form and return it (with a copy of his/her resume) to NHIInstructorLiaison@dot.gov. You must be approved for technical competency and subject matter expertise.
The FHWA Office of Acquisition and Grants Management also awards contracts to outside vendors to support the National Highway Institute in the development, update, and delivery of instructor-led and/or distance learning courses. Questions about supporting NHI under these existing contracts should be directed to one or more of these vendors currently under contract.
NHI Instructor Certification
NHI offers a certification program to provide, oversee, and continuously improve the quality of its instructors' skills and instructional techniques: the NHI Instructor Certification Program. Instructors selected to deliver NHI training have one year to complete the program.
Participants receive a Certificate of Accomplishment upon successful completion of the program, which provides evidence that each instructor has met NHI's rigorous standards.
First Time NHI Instructor Registration
Instructors assigned to teach an ILT and/or facilitate a WCT course must first receive an NHI Instructor ID. If you do not have an Instructor ID, please go to the Instructor Registration page.
If you were assigned an NHI Instructor ID and misplaced it or forgot it, please call the NHI Instructor Liaison at (703) 235-0952 or email NHIInstructorLiaison@dot.gov.
