Project Management Oversight (PMO) Lessons Learned Program

PurposeĀ

This information is intended to increase the effectiveness of transit capital expenditures through shared experience and lessons learned on major capital transit projects.

This collection is from various phases of a variety projects which can be usefully applied to other similar projects. The lessons pertain to engineering and project management activities and are classified into the relevant project phases and categories.

Further updates and improvements to the Lessons Learned information are planned. Please contact Matthew Nawn, 202-366-0893 with any comments, questions, or suggestions for improvement.

Background

The lessons learned program was developed with the assistance of FTA Project Management Oversight Program (PMOP) contractors, transit properties, and FTA regional engineers. Project Management Oversight assists FTA in its mission of ensuring that major capital transit projects are executed professionally, efficiently, and in conformance with applicable statutes, regulations, and guidance as well as sound engineering and project management practices. The focus of PMO services is to determine if a project is on time, within budget, in conformance with the grantee's approved plans and specifications, and is efficiently and effectively implemented. The lessons learned program is an integral part of the PMOP and the requirements associated with this program are detailed in FTA Office of Capital Project Management Oversight Procedure 26.
