Former Montana Airport Director Pleads Guilty in Connection with Fraudulent $603,000 Land Sale to Missoula International Airport

Summary

On May 19, John Seymour, former director of Missoula, MT International Airport, pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Missoula to fraud in connection with a land sale scheme. In December 2000, the airport purchased additional runway approach land from two Montana businessmen for $603,000 ($350,000 above the highest appraised value). OIG's investigation found that the three men had conspired to sell the land to the aiport at an inflated price, with Seymour receiving a $60,000 kickback. The three men were indicted on charges of conspiracy, mail fraud, and program fraud in March 2006. Seymour is scheduled for sentencing on September 29, 2006. The ongoing investigation is being conducted jointly with the FBI.
