Summary

On January 31, 2014, Willie Leonard Spikes, Jr., former shop steward for trucking company Fusella Group, LLC. (Fusella), International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 282, was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Brooklyn, New York, to 'time served', one year of supervised release, and restitution of $226,037. 

Our investigation disclosed that Spikes facilitated a scheme involving the under-reporting of the number of hours Fusella's drivers worked on various construction projects, including the FTA-funded World Trade Center Transportation Hub (PATH Terminal) project in Manhattan. Spikes admitted that he falsified "Hired Truck" reports as part of the scheme. As a result, it is estimated that more than $400,000 in wages and benefits were under-reported.

The investigation was conducted jointly with the U.S. Department of Labor OIG, the Port Authority of New York-and-New Jersey OIG, Internal Revenue Service - CID, and the New York City Business Integrity Commission.
