Summary

At the request of Senator Joseph Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, we initiated a follow-up audit to evaluate the Department's progress in (1) increasing the safety of railroad-highway grade crossings, (2) reducing trespassing on railroad rights-of-way, and (3) implementing safety proposals included in the 1994 Rail-Highway Grade Crossing Safety Action Plan.
