Are there any fees associated with updating registration information with FMCSA under the Unified Registration System (URS)?

No fees will be required for businesses that are already registered and are simply filing a biennial update or a name/address/form of business change.

As of January 14, 2017, new applicants (including private motor carriers) and entities whose USDOT Registrations (including safety and/or operating authority) have been revoked must pay a new application fee for each new registration type requested. In addition, applicants seeking reinstatement of a suspended registration must pay a reinstatement fee of $10 for each request for reinstatement after that date.

Intrastate carriers that are required by their state of domicile to obtain a USDOT number from FMCSA or to update information related to that USDOT number will not incur a registration fee, even after January 14, 2017. If at any time an intrastate carrier decides to expand operations to interstate, the carrier will first be required to submit an application for interstate registration and pay the requisite fee(s).  No interstate operations will be authorized unless and until FMCSA grants interstate safety and/or operating authority registration.
