Fellowships and Internships

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration offers various internship and fellowship opportunities for undergraduates, graduates, and law students to gain vital career experience with the Federal government. 

Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP)
This program is a comprehensive, two-year entry-level employment and career development program designed to recruit and attract exceptional individuals into a variety of occupations.
Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF)
This program serves to attract to the Federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs.
Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP)
This program provides Federal employment opportunities to degree seeking students, enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited academic program. The SEEP program is comprised of the Student Career Experience Program and the Student Temporary Employment Program.

Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) provides valuable work experience which must be directly related to the student's academic program and career goals.

Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) provides maximum flexibility because the nature of the work does not have to be directly related to the student's education program or career goals. Employment in the STEP program can range from summer jobs to positions that last as long as the student is enrolled in an accredited academic program.

Student Volunteer Program
This program offers unpaid training opportunities to students in high school and college. These opportunities provide work experience related to the student¿s academic program. The program allows students to explore career options as well as develop personal and professional skills. Students may receive educational credit for their internship.
Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) Internship Program
This program is designed to enhance and facilitate the development of a highly qualified and diverse transportation workforce for the 21st century. The program increases educational opportunities for under-served populations attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges and Universities, institutions that serve Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and person with disabilities.
DOT Honors Attorney Program
This program is sponsored and administered every two years by the DOT Office of the General Counsel for new or recent law graduates. During the two-year program, each Honors Attorney spends at least four months in the General Counsel's office and completes several four-month rotations in Chief Counsels' offices throughout DOT's Operating Administrations. Honors Attorneys receive challenging and responsible assignments and develop an understanding of the particular legal problems that face each DOT Operating Administration. They also have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of the DOT's activities and to learn how policy decisions are implemented.
DOT Career Residency Program
This program is designed to attract recent college graduates with master's degrees and provide DOT corporate development. Targeted recruitment focuses on three career paths: Transportation Specialists, Engineers, and Business/Information Technology Specialists.
