PHMSA Clarifies Policy Removing PG II Designation for Organic Peroxides and Self-Reactive Substances. The U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) today issued a guidance memorandum clarifying the agency's final rule from June 2, 2016, which removed the packing group (PG) II designation for Organic Peroxides, and Self-Reactive Substances in the Hazardous Materials Table (HMT). The memo explains that, effective July 5, 2016, the PG II designation is no longer required in the shipping description for Organic Peroxides or Self-Reactive Substances. Those with current approvals may request a modification to remove the PG II designation, or they may continue to use their current approval until the posted expiration date. Stocks of preprinted shipping papers and package markings may be used as previously authorized until July 5, 2017.
