Welcome to the Office of International Programs

Christopher Lawson, Acting Director

The Office of International Programs leads the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) efforts to provide the U.S. highway community access to international sources of information on road-related technologies and innovations. It also provides technical assistance to developing countries and economies in transition, those shifting from a planned economy to a market economy. The Office of International Programs also promotes U.S. standards and services related to highway transportation, including design, highway operations, asphalt and cement, bridge inspection, safety, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) architecture and operation, and more. The office is committed to building and maintaining effective relationships with foreign counterparts and international groups to foster information exchange, maintain global professional networks, and improve the way things are currently being done (state of practice) for the roads sector worldwide.
