I have been made a tentative offer, what do I do next?
Answer: Yes

Can I return my pre-employment forms (306 & New Applicant Data Sheet) by email?
Answer: On average the pre-employment process can take up to 6-8 weeks. Sometimes it may take less time or it could take longer, it depends on various factors including when you return your pre-employment paperwork and when you return the forms required by security..
What is the timeframe for the pre-employment process?
Answer: You will be contacted by our security office and our Drug Program Coordinator
Who will be contacting me?
Answer: You have 48 hours from the time of notification to complete the applicant drug test.

Once I'm notified by the Drug Program Coordinator that I have to take the applicant drug test, how long do I have to complete the applicant drug test?
Answer: The tentative offer of employment will be revoked, and you have to reapply for any OIG positions.

What happens if I do not complete the application drug test within the required 48 hours?
Answer: The tentative offer employment will be revoked, and you will be unable to apply for any OIG positions for a period of 1-year.

What happens if my applicant drug test result is positive?
Answer: On the New Applicant Information Data Sheet, there is a section entitled preferred applicant drug testing location, depending on which option you select, you will take your drug test in the vicinity of that location.

Where will I take my drug test?
Answer: If you currently have a security clearance and it meets the position sensitivity requirements, you do not have to through the clearance process. We will only request an updated SF 86 to have on file.

If I have already have a secruity clearance do I still have to go through the security portion of the process?
The below reasons are some examples that could cause an interim security clearance to be denied:

--Foreign Influence (Immediate family member, or person to whom the individual has close ties or affection or obligation, is a citizen of, or resident or present in, a Foreign country)
--Foreign Preference (Dual citizenship an/or possession of a foreign passport)
--Financial (A history of not meeting financial obligations)
--Criminal Conduct
--Drug Involvement
(Note: Each case is judged on its own merit and there are factors that can mitigate the above examples)


What are some reasons that could cause me to be denied an interim security clearance?
Answer: We will normally contact your Human Resources Office once we are ready to request a release date for you, which will be after you have obtained an interim clearance and successfully completed your drug test.
When will you contact my current HR office (if current federal employee)?

Answer: The National Capital Region Mass Transit Program allows eligible employees to receive a transit subsidy benefit of up to $125.00 per month. It is distributed electronically.

Metro checks are distributed quarterly.

What is the current transit subsidy amount and how often is it distributed?
Answer: This is a record of your government services. Each time you are promoted, reassigned or any other type of action that is taken regarding you/or your position, you will receive a notification of personnel action. It is a good idea to keep your employee copy in a personal file.

The servicing regional office DFAS-Indianapolis is responsible for keeping an Official Personnel Folder (OPF) of your government service. It will follow you throughout your government career. When you receive your copy, look it over, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact your personnel office.

What is a Standard Form 50 (SF50) and what does it look like?
Answer: Please complete all of the forms listed for your section. The forms that do not apply to you have the “not applicable” option. If you have any questions concerning your forms we can address them on your first day.

What if some of the forms on the website do not apply to me?

Answer: If you start work on the first Monday of the pay period, you will earn leave the first pay period. If you start work any time after that Monday you will have to wait until the next pay period before you accrue any annual or sick leave.

 

When do I start earning leave?
Answer: All pay periods end on a Saturday and you are paid the following Friday. For an example the pay period dates are 10 through 23 July 2005. Your pay date is 29 July 2005. You are receiving pay for 10 through 23 July 2005 only. All the rest of the Office of the Inspector General employees are receiving the same timeframe.

Why are you holding back a weeks pay?
Answer: You would contact the Customer Service Representative, Rose Rishell at 703-602-4518.

Who do I ask pay and leave questions?
Answer: Even though you have direct deposit, a hard copy Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) will be mailed to your home address unless you elect electronic copy to myPay.

Will a pay stub be mailed to my home?
Answer: Yes, it is mandatory by the federal government that all employees have direct deposit.

Do I have to have direct deposit?
Answer: Have you moved and not notified your Customer Service Representative? LES’s are not forwarded by the postal service.

Why haven’t I received my Leave and Earnings Statement?
Answer: You can change your address through MyPay.

You will need to notify your health benefits carrier directly if you change your address
Who do I notify if I am changing my address?
Answer: Paydays are every other Friday.

Answer: You have 60 days from your first day to elect health benefits.

How long do I have to elect health benefits coverage or FEHB?
Answer: First full payperiod after benefits are processed.. Please be aware that it may take up to 4 weeks to receive your enrollment card. Please contact your health benefits carrier for additional information.
When will my FEHB be effective?
Answer: You can sign up to contribute to the TSP at any time. Your contributions will begin no later than the first full pay period after your agency accepts your election.  If you are a FERS employee, your agency contributions will begin once you satisfy the mandatory waiting period.

How long do I have to sign up for the Thrift Savings Plan or TSP?
Answer: Normally, if you make your election during the 1st week you come on board, you will see the deductions in your second paycheck.
When will my FEHB and or TSP deduction come out of my paycheck?
Answer: You are automatically covered for basic life insurance on your first day. If you elect to waive this coverage the deduction will still come out of your first paycheck, however, it will not come out of future paycheck (depending on when you submit form SF2817 to your Human Resources Office). You must complete form SF2817 to waive coverage or elect additional coverage.

I waived FEGLI, but the deduction still came out of my paycheck….

How long do I have to elect Federal Group Life Insurance or FEGLI?

Who do I contact for questions regarding my benefits?
Answer : Eligibility to Enroll at Own Cost
If your position is excluded from coverage because your appointment is limited to one year or less, you will be eligible to enroll under 5 U.S.C. 8906a when you have completed one year of current continuous employment, excluding any break in service of 5 days or less. You must pay both the employee and the Government shares of the premium.

The one-year requirement may be met at the end of a one-year appointment in a single agency or it may be based on a series of shorter appointments served in one or more agencies, as long as you have not had a break in service of more than 5 days.

In many cases, a temporary appointment lasts one year. If your appointment is renewed at the end of that year, you are eligible to enroll.
