About this table: This table summarizes comets discovered and confirmed in SOHO satellite
data. The Perihelion Date column represents the date at which the object reached its
perihelion (closest approach to the Sun). The Comet Designation column represents the
unofficial SOHO designation and also the official IAU designation. The Comet Discoverer
column lists the person or persons who first reported the object. The Telescope column lists
the SOHO instruments in which the object was discovered and/or observed. The Perihelion
Distance column lists the object's closest approach to the Sun in units of AU (Astronomical
Units). Additionally, the values are linked to the MPEC (Minor Planet Electronic Circular) that
defines the official orbit for the object. The Orbit Updates column lists any subsequent
orbit updates to the objects. Note that the majority of these links point to IAUC (International
Astronomical Union Circular) files, which are only available to subscribers of CBATs Electronic
Computer Service. The Auto/Vis. Disc. column denotes whether a comet was
found visually or by automated search software.
