This guidance document provides a foundation for improving the Department of the Navy's information assurance (IA) posture and outlines courses of action to comply with the requirements of the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2006. The document supports and complements current SECNAV IA Policy (SECNAVINST 5239.3B), bolsters established policies and procedures to ensure FISMA compliance, improves the DON's overall IA posture, provides metrics to measure specific IA aspects, and includes the DON policy for plans of action and milestones for correction of information security deficiencies.
