DoD Releases Information Systems Certification and Accreditation Reciprocity Memo

Published, August 3, 2009

The Department of Defense has recently published the DoD Information Systems Certification and Accreditation (C&A) Reciprocity Memo signed by the DoD Principal Accrediting Authorities - senior officials who represent the interests of the Global Information Grid Mission Areas for C&A.

This memo provides a systematic, repeatable process for ensuring timely reciprocity of DoD information systems and will advance information sharing, and reduce rework and cycle time when establishing Combined/Joint ISs/Networks. The security terms and conditions for C&A reciprocity defined in the memo will result in the necessary level of trust for reciprocity based on transparency, uniform process, and a common understanding of expected outcomes.

The DON has been a participant in the development of the DoD reciprocity memo and processes and fully endorses its use throughout the DON.
