In-processing

Wounded, ill and injured Soldiers requiring at least six months of rehabilitative care and complex case management are assigned to a Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) or a Community Care Unit (CCU).  In order to be considered for entry in the Warrior Care and Transition Program (P), Soldiers must meet specific program entry and eligibility requirements based on component. Information for Family members about in-processing and throughout the Soldier’s transition status is available.

In-processing begins once a wounded, ill and injured Soldier is assigned or attached to a WTU or CCU. Upon entering a WTU, the Soldier will in-process to the new unit through the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC). The WTU Interdisciplinary Team of both clinical and non-clinical staff will provide support to you and your Family during in-processing and throughout your time in the WTU.

Severely wounded, ill and injured Soldiers may be eligible for the Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2).

In-processing includes:

• Initiating the Comprehensive Transition Plan (CTP)
• Goal setting in the social, physical, spiritual, Family, career and emotional domains
• Screenings from medical, behavioral and other health professionals
• Administrative actions, such as receiving orders, ID cards and meal cards
• Actions affecting the Soldier's overall well-being, such as housing, finance and visiting the Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC)

After in-processing, the Soldier’s primary focus during his or her time in a WTU is to heal and recover. For more information on what the Soldier and Family members can expect after in-processing, visit the rehabilitation page.

What are some of the circumstances where a Soldier may be found ineligible for entry into a WTU or CCU?

The following Soldiers, regardless of component are ineligible for entry into a Warrior Transition Unit (WTU):

• Pregnant Soldiers. Pregnancy alone is not a criterion for attachment/assignment to a WTU. Pregnant Soldiers may enter the WTU if treatment for qualifying conditions can be conducted without interfering with the pregnancy.
• Pending Military Occupational Specialty Administrative Retention Review (MAR2).
• In Temporary Disability Retirement List (TDRL) status.
• Approved for Continuation on Active Duty (COAD) or Active Reserve status (COAR).
• Mobilized COMPO 2/3 Soldiers whose condition(s) existed prior to mobilization, was/were not aggravated by mobilization, or was discovered prior to day 25 of the current mobilization.
• *Soldiers in initial entry training, advanced individual training, or one station unit training.
• *Soldiers in pending or undergoing any Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), legal actions, investigations, and/or Line of Duty determinations.

Who on the WTU/CCU staff will help me and my Family to negotiate all the requirements and expectations while at the WTU/CCU?

A WTU squad leader (SL) or CCU Platoon Sergeant (PSG) will serve as your first line supervisor and link to the chain of command. The SL or PSG will help to resolve any administrative issues that arise and provide guidance regarding Warrior Care and Transition Processes. There is also an Interdisciplinary Team of both clinical and non-clinical staff that will provide care and support to you and your Family so that you can focus on your mission to heal.
