Setup Internships

Many wounded, ill and injured Soldiers welcome the opportunity to complete internships during their recovery or shortly after their transition to bolster their resume and ease their transition to civilian life. Employers can benefit from setting up an internship by temporarily obtaining a skilled Soldier or Veteran to support the company’s mission, with the potential to obtain full-time permanent employment following completion.

How to Set Up an Internship – Federal Employers

Local transition coordinators at Warrior Transition Units (WTUs) can help Federal agencies set up internships through the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Operation Warfighter (OWF) Program and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Non-Paid Work Experience (NPWE) Program. These programs are designed specifically for recovering service members or Veterans.

How to Set Up an Internship – Private Employers

Private sector organizations can use a variety of Federal programs to establish internships for transitioning Soldiers and Veterans who have transitioned out of the military. To learn about these options and how to set up an internship, please contact a WTU transition coordinator or a U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2) career coordinator by contacting us.

Writing Effective Position Descriptions

While the skills and experiences acquired in the military are highly transferable, matching these to traditional position descriptions can be difficult. To ensure employers don’t miss the opportunity to work with our skilled Soldiers and Veterans, it is important for employers to write position descriptions that are easy to understand by Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families.
