Arrival

  If a person arrives in the area by plane, he or she will land at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, built in 1965 and continuously being upgraded. The airport is located 8 miles from the heart of the city. Transportation to and from the airport includes commercial buses, limousines and taxis.

Community Services

  Fort Jackson’s commissary is located between the on-post housing areas and the mini mall near Pierce Terrace Elementary School. Current operating hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 8

Medical and Dental Services

  Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson’s main medical facility, provides care to permanent party Service Members, Soldiers-in-Training, active duty families and retirees. On an average day, Moncrief provides medical care for 1 inpatient, sees 2,010 patients in its ambulatory clinics, fills 2,450 prescriptions, and performs approximately 2,389 laboratory procedures
