You're finishing your duty in active service, but now what? It can be challenging to transition back into civilian life, but you don't have to make the step alone — there are programs and resources to help you along the way.

And we have consultants available around the clock by phone, online or email for whenever you need a little advice. If you're overseas, you can find dialing information for other countries at the Military OneSource website.

2. Local one-stop career centers

Exactly how it sounds, these centers are your personal one-stop shop to help you develop job search skills, find a job and figure out if you're eligible for unemployment benefits. They also provide education and training options, including financial aid and other public assistance programs.

3. Department of Veterans Affairs offices

VA will give you with all the information you need on your benefits in the VA Benefits Briefing.

4. County Department of Social Services

Go to your county office to learn more about public assistance programs.

5. Private welfare-to-work agencies

Learn more about public assistance programs offered specifically through the agencies.
