Getting Onboard at NMCSD

To get onboard at Naval Medical Center San Diego, you will need to provide photo identification. The following is a list of acceptable forms of identification for staff, patients, and visitors.

staff

  • Military: DoD CAC card
  • Dependent: Dependent ID card
  • Retirees: Retiree ID card
  • Civilian: DoD CAC card or Region Contractor's ID card
  • Contractors: DoD CAC card or Rapid Gate ID card
  • *Retirees employed as staff onboard NMCSD are REQUIRED to present their DoD CAC card when entering the gates for work.  All staff members are required to register their vehicles with Pass and Decal, to obtain a Staff Parking permit.

patients & visitors

  • Military: DoD CAC card /  Retiree ID card
  • Dependent: Dependent ID card
  • Retirees: Retiree ID card
  • Contractors: DoD CAC card, Region Contractor's identification card or Rapid Gate identification card
  • Civilian guest: All non-affiliated and unescorted guests, to include visitors and vendors who are not hulding a DoD approved identification card, conducting business onboard NMCSD will be required to fill and submit SECNAV Form 5512/1 for base access.  Visitors/vendors will be required  to submit SECNAV Form 5512/1 to 32nd St. NBSD Pass and ID.  Please contact your sponsor for further information or NMCSD Access Contrul Coordinator at (619) 532-8507.
  • *ONLY DoD CAC holders are authorized to escort personnel onto base.
    * Patient visitors WILL NOT be affected by this pulicy and the gate liaison will remain as the conduit for patient visitation matters during normal working hours.

Where to Park - Parking Lots at NMCSD

Note: All marked reserved spaces are reserved 24 hrs, 7 days a week.


  • A-Lot:
    Patient/visitor parking 24 hrs, 7 days a week.
  • BLDG 18-Patient/Visitor Parking Garage: Patient/Visitor parking from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM. Gates will be locked at both entrance and exit from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
  • B-Lot: Handicap parking is in the upper B-lot, 24 hrs, 7 days a week.
  • C-Lot: Handicap parking is in the upper C-lot, 24 hrs, 7 days a week. Stork, Hematulogy/Onculogy, and C-5 patient parking is also in the upper C-lot, 24 hrs, 7 days a week.
  • ER-Lot: Reserved parking for Emergency Room patients only. Reserved 24 hrs, 7 days a week. ER parking pass is required. Pass must be obtained from ER receptionist and placed on the vehicle dashboard to avoid being ticketed
  • O-lot (city owned): Overflow parking for staff/vendors/contractors from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM Monday to Friday. Closed on weekends and holidays.
  • 400 City lot: Staff/patient/vendor/visitor parking, 7 days a week. No parking from 2:00 AM to 8:30 AM each day.
  • 800 City lot: Staff/patient/vendor/visitor parking, 7 days a week.

Free Tram Services

Tram Service runs approximately every 15 min from 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM from the O- lot and the 400/ 800 city lots.

  • O-LOT: There is a tram that runs through the O-lot (overflow parking for staff and vendors only) every 15-20 minutes. The tram service runs from 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM and is free of charge. The tram will drop off at several locations on base, including buildings 1, 2, and 3.
  • CITY LOT: There is also a tram that runs through the city lot (outside the back gate) every 15-25 minutes. The tram service runs from 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM and is free of charge. The tram will drop off at several locations on base, including buildings 1, 2, and 3.
