UN Security Council Resolution 794 is unanimously passed, approving a coalition of United Nations peacekeepers led by the United States to form UNITAF, with the task of establishing peace and ensuring that humanitarian aid is distributed in Somalia.

Unified Task Force (UNITAF) was a United States-led, United Nations-sanctioned multinational force which operated in Somalia between Dec. 5, 1992 through May 4, 1993. UNITAF was named Operation Restore Hope by  the US and EUCOM designated  as the lead agency.

EUCOM  was charged with carrying out United Nations Security Council Resolution 794: to create a protected environment for conducting humanitarian operations in the southern half of Somalia.

UNITAF's original mandate was to use "all necessary means" to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid in accordance to Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter and is regarded as a success.

CHISINAU, Moldova - Two National Guard and three civilian nurses from North Carolina are sharing expertise this week with their Moldovan counterparts at the Ministries of Defense and Health. The American nurses are donating their time to work with the Ministry of Defense, the Military Hospital, the College of Medicine, the Nursing Association, and Straseni Medical personnel. The event is part of the North Carolina-Moldova State Partnership Program established in 1995 and overseen by the U.S. Embassy's Office of Defense Cooperation. The project aims to improve Moldova's healthcare system.
