Commander Naval Forces Japan (CNFJ) personnel participated in a joint disaster drill with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Japanese Coast Guard and the American Red Cross along with the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force on Oshima Island Nov. 21, which is 109 km south of Tokyo. The scenario required U.S. and Japanese forces airlifting relief supplies to the island following a simulated disaster that could be caused by a tsunami, volcanic eruption or earthquake. Two MH-60R "Seahawks" belonging to the HSM-51 "Warlords" from Naval Air Facility Atsugi (NAF Atsugi), carried personnel from CNFJ's emergency management team along with a member from American Red Cross Yokosuka in addition to the simulated relief supplies.
