YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) – Commander, Navy Region Japan (CNRJ) Rear Adm. Matthew Carter relieved Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Capt. David Glenister April 20, due to a loss of confidence in the commanding officer's ability to lead.

The action resulted from the findings gathered during investigations which determined that Glenister had not performed up to the high standards demanded of an installation commanding officer.

Glenister has been temporarily assigned to the staff of CNRJ.

Capt. Steven Wieman, deputy commander and chief of staff of CNRJ and the former commanding officer of Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan has been assigned as acting commanding officer.

Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka is the home of the forward-deployed ships of Battle Force 7th Fleet (CTF-70), including the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15.  CFAY is the largest overseas U.S. Naval installation in the world and is considered to be one of the most strategically important bases in the U.S. military.
