Make a Difference Day

Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

WHAT:  Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. During the month of October, millions of volunteers around the world will unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.

Volunteers will winterize the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, relocate plants for the green house, remove some invasive plants and engage in some landscaping around the park.

Calling All Volunteers!

National Family Volunteer Day at the Armed Forces Retirement Home

National Family Volunteer Day is a day when families are encouraged to volunteer as a unit to perform community service and to instill the value of volunteering in children.

Military personnel from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard,  DoD civilians and their families will  join together to perform some interior and exterior clean-up.  Project will include:   Wheelchair washing (16 and older), Clean Assisted Living Dining Chairs,  some light landscaping such as clearing of invasive weeds and raking of leaves (Please bring a rake), Ceramics Room Cleaning, Fall Decorating, Winterize Ponds and Garden, Comfort Cart Delivery, Children will be making holiday and thank you cards for inpatients,

WHAT: DC Mayor’s Senior Citizens Holiday Gala 

WHEN: TBA

TIME:   0830- 1400

WHERE: DC Armory
            3700 North Capital Street NW
            Washington, DC

WHO:  Volunteers will assist with: escorting the seniors on and off the buses, serving meals, dancing and breaking down the tables.  Individuals interested in volunteering should complete an on-line registration form.
