GCSS-Army Honored for Excellence

GITEC

LTC Christopher Romero, the Product Manager for GCSS-Army, accepts the award.

The Government Information Technology Executive Council (GITEC) is a non-profit organization that provides a professional development forum for government and industry leaders to collaborate and innovate on mission critical solutions enabled through IT. The council is comprised of senior-level government executives organized to support the delivery of high quality and cost-effective Information Technology services to their customers.

GITEC Board of Directors: The GITEC board is comprised of senior government IT executives to collaborate with other government and industry leaders to share information and to solve real government information technology challenges.
The Executive Advisory Committee (EAC): The GITEC EAC is comprised of industry leaders who volunteered to partner and build relationships with government leaders to help advance information technology in the government.
GITEC Associates: GITEC Associates are high-level government representatives who assist the Board and EAC in planning GITEC's events and outreach programs.

The organization was originally established in 1966 and was called the Federal Data Center Directors Council (FDCDC) and was comprised of government data center managers to share information across the federal sector. As technology evolved, the Council of Data Center Directors was renamed as the Government Information Technology Council (GITEC) to broaden its scope beyond the data center. In addition to having a board of directors, GITEC created an Executive Advisory Council (EAC) composed of private sector leaders to cultivate information sharing between federal and private sector leaders to advance government.

The Council exists to support Government Information Technology Executives in the delivery of high quality and cost-effective services to their customers by:

  • Providing educational material and experiences for government information technology executives
  • Providing a forum to discuss and share experiences and information of current interest to government information technology
  • Developing and maintaining communications channels between Federal Information Technology Executives and Federal oversight agencies to influence information management policy and direction in the Federal sector
  • Developing and expressing consensus opinions regarding matters affecting the government information technology environment
  • Influencing the private sector in their provision of services to meet the needs of Federal information technology organizations
