Active Duty Service Members

TRICARE Prime Overseas is the only option you can use in overseas Prime Service AreasGeographic areas in the U.S. where we offer TRICARE Prime. They ensure medical readiness of active duty by adding to the capability and capacity of military hospitals and clinics. Prime Service Areas were also built around the Base Realignment and Closure sites..

  • You may be required to switch to another Prime plan when you move.
  • If you move within in the same region, you only need to find a new primary care manager.
  • If you move to another region, you can transfer your enrollment to another Prime plan, depending on the location.

I want to switch to: Follow these steps: 
TRICARE Standard Overseas

Disenroll from TRICARE Prime Overseas.

  • TRICARE Standard Overseas coverage begins on the day after your TRICARE Prime Overseas coverage ends.
  • You may be locked out from re-enrolling in TRICARE Prime Overseas for up to one year.
TRICARE For Life

To use TRICARE For Life overseas, sign up for Medicare Part B.

  • TRICARE For Life begins as soon as you have Medicare Part A and B.
  • If under age 65, you can stay enrolled in TRICARE Prime Overseas or disenroll

If you have a family member enrolled in TRICARE Prime Overseas:

  • His/her enrollment is separate from yours
  • He/she can stay enrolled as long as they remain eligible
TRICARE Young Adult

If you qualify, you can purchase TRICARE Young Adult.

  • You're automatically disenrolled from TRICARE Prime Overseas when you're no longer eligible.
  • Enroll within 30 days of loss of TRICARE Prime Overseas to avoid a gap in coverage.
  • Go get a new ID card.
