Janet Joiner Janet Joiner
Program Coordinator

Janet Joiner is the program coordinator for the Board on Human Systems-Integration and the Board on Behavioral, Cognitive, and Sensory Sciences. Janet previously worked at PRM Consulting Group and the World Wildlife Fund, both in Washington, DC. She has experience in meeting planning and financial support, as well as providing administrative support on document preparation, travel arrangements and briefing materials. Her educational background is in business administration.
  
Heather BreinerHeather Kreidler, M.S.
Associate Program Officer

Heather Kreidler is an Associate Program Officer for the Board on Environmental Change and Society and the Board on Human-Systems Integration. She started at the Academies in 2008, and her work has included studies and workshops on wide-ranging topics including public health, nutrition and dietary guidance, and issues facing children, youth, and families. Recently she has been working on environmental topics, including a study on social and behavioral science knowledge and its application to meteorology, weather forecasting, and hazard preparedness. Prior to the Academies, Heather worked at a commercial real estate company where she researched and managed rooftop communication infrastructures. Heather received a B.S. in business management from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and her M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from George Mason University.

Julie Schuck, M.S.

Program Officer

 

Julie Anne Schuck is a program officer with the Board on Behavioral, Cognitive, and Sensory Sciences, currently supporting the Decadal Survey of Social and Behavioral Sciences for National Security. She has worked in the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education (DBASSE) for over 14 years. She has provided analytical, administrative, and editorial support for a number of studies and workshops and contributed technical writings for many reports. Her projects have covered a number of areas, including law and justice issues, STEM education, the science of human-system integration, as well as the evaluations of federal research programs. Recent reports include The Growth of Incarceration in the United States; Reforming Juvenile Justice; Health and Incarceration; Understanding the U.S. Illicit Tobacco Market; Strengthening the National Institute of Justice; and Support for Forensic Science Research. She has an M.S. in education from Cornell University and a B.S. in engineering physics from the University of California, San Diego.

  
Toby WardenToby Warden, Ph.D.
Board Director

Toby Warden is the director for the Board on Human-Systems Integration (BOHSI) and the Board on Environmental Change and Society. Dr. Warden is returning to the Academies after a 2-year period as Director of Scientific Administration for the Department of Neurological Sciences and Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, spearheading strategic planning efforts to foster research collaboration. At the Academies previously, she began in 2009 as a study director on climate change and weather related activities with the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate. She joined BOHSI in 2011 as a study director, and later associate board director, working on a number of activities related to worker safety, safety culture, systems design and organizational performance. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Ecology with an emphasis on Environmental Analysis and Design from the University of California, Irvine. A member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society she also holds a certificate in Business Fundamentals from HBX/Harvard Business School.
