- Mission: To provide
prompt, highly accurate, clinical and anatomical pathology results, in a
caring, cost-effective and professional environment.
- Scope of Practice:
Provides complete clinical pathology services for the MEDDAC-AK and 5
satellite clinics by the performance of technical laboratory procedures
in Hematology, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Clinical Chemistry, Special
Chemistry, Microbiology, and Serology on a 24 hour-a-day/ 7 days-a-week
basis. BACH laboratory tracks, monitors, performs and sends out
legal/forensic toxicologies; prepares and sends specimens to reference
laboratories, (either military or civilian, depending on need) when
testing is not available in the laboratory and receives the results of
such testing; performs daily quality control according to manufacturer's
instructions, departmental SOPs, Clinical Lab Improvement Program
(CLIP), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and JCAHO accreditation
standards. Provides anatomical pathology services for the MEDDAC-AK and
its satellite services by performance of Histology, Cytology, (pap
smear, fluid cytology, cytology reading and interpretation), Surgical
Pathology (microscopic, gross, frozen sections), bone marrow in limited
manner, touch preps on a regular day-shift schedule. BACH AP laboratory
performs Quality Control procedures according to manufacturer's
instructions, departmental SOP's, and CAP accreditation standards;
prepares and ships QC and consultation samples for pathology peer
review. Provides transfusion services which meet the needs of the blood
transfusion service of the FDA, AABB, and CAP.
