Quick Reference Guide

  • Mission: Provide care for mothers who labored and delivered by vaginal or cesarean section and their newborns. The Maternal-Newborn Unit specializes in the comprehensive delivery of safe, high quality care which recognizes, focuses on, and adapts to both the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the new mother, the family and the neonate.
  • Scope of Practice: All obstetrical patients greater than 20 weeks gestation who require hospitalization for: (1) Labor, delivery (Vaginal or Cesarean) and recovery (2) High Risk factors such as: Pre-eclampsia (PIH), Vaginal Bleeding, Diabetes, Multiple Gestation, Preterm Labor, Premature Rupture of Membranes, Intrauterine Fetal Demise. Coincidental medical/surgical conditions which warrant continuous fetal monitoring until patient is stable for transfer to other medical facility. Also, OB patients around 19-20 wks gestation who require hospitalization and/or outpatient treatment for IV hydration or fetal monitoring after trauma. OB patients greater than 20 wks gestation who require assessment of Maternal-fetal well being high risk protocol for neonates with conditions such as fetal bradycardia, small or large for gestational age, malformation, and if mother is GBS positive. Also, high risk protocol for neonates with maternal factors such as DM, C-S, pre-eclampsia and premature rupture of membranes.
