Primary Care

Quick Reference Guide

  • Mission: Provide comprehensive primary medical care to all active duty soldiers, their   families, and some retirees. Patients have one designated primary care provider, who may be a physician, physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner.
  • Scope of Practice:

Outpatient care includes: well-baby and child exams; well-woman physicals, including Pap smears; adult physical examinations; prenatal care; school/sports physicals; sports medicine, assessment and treatment; diagnosis and management of common medical illnesses in the pediatric, adult, active duty, and geriatric populations; diagnosis and management of acute minor illnesses and injuries via walk-in and same-day appointments; routine psychiatric evaluation and counseling to include depression, ADD, and anxiety disorders.

Outpatient procedures include: vasectomy, skin biopsies and excisions, and other minor surgical procedures. Routine orthopedic procedures to include fracture reduction, casting, joint aspiration, and injection.

Outpatient procedures include: colposcopy, flexible sigmoidoscopies, and treadmill stress testing.  These procedures are preformed at Bassett Army Community Hospital.

Preventive care includes: assisting patients in choosing a healthier lifestyle through counseling on subjects such as exercise, diet, and tobacco cessation, immunization of children and adults, assessment and treatment of sexually-transmitted diseases, and education and prevention of environmental injuries such as frostbite, heat exhaustion, etc.

Inpatient care includes: inpatient care of pediatric and adult patients, management of labor and delivery of pregnant patients, routine care of newborns to include circumcision, and assisting in general or obstetrical surgery, as needed.

Visiting specialists include: Dermatology and Neurology from the 3rd Medical Group at Elmendorf AFB, see patients by consultation from Primary care providers, on a limited basis, at the Kamish clinic. Hours of

 - Internal Medicine Clinic

 

  • Mission: Provide primary care to a defined panel of patients mostly retirees, whose medical problems warrant regular follow-up with an internist. Also provide extensive problem-oriented consultative services, and inpatient care for such patients.
  • Scope of Practice: Primary care services to empanelled patients including routine and same-day appointments. Consultative services include pre-operative evaluation, general internal medicine, and all medical sub-specialty evaluation (some on a limited basis) to include Allergy/Immunology, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Gastroenterology,/Hepatic, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Pulmonary, Renal disease/electrolyte disorders, Rheumatology and sleep disorders.

- Pediatrics Clinic

  • Mission: Provide primary care and referral service, as well as in-patient care, for family members age birth to 18. Adolescents up to age 21 with chronic medical conditions may be empanelled to Pediatrics on a case-by-case basis. Newborns of EGA 34 weeks and above are admitted from Labor and Delivery; infants of 33 weeks EGA or less are admitted on a case-by-case basis, or referred to an appropriate level of care.
  • Scope of Practice: Assessment, treatment and referral of well and ill children. Procedures include phlebotomy, IV hydration, nebulizer respiratory medications, ear lavage, bladder catheterization, lumbar puncture, throat cultures, routine childhood immunizations, intramuscular and intravenous administration of medications, and routine elective circumcision in infants less than 1 month of age.

- Allergy Immunology Clinic
  • Mission: Provide allergy care for any eligible beneficiaries currently on Immunotherapy. Allergy evaluations are sent for outside consultation as determined by the Primary Care Provider. Provide routine health maintenance immunizations and PPD testing for adults and children.
  • Scope of Practice: Provide routine immunizations for children and adults. Continued treatment with immunotherapy (allergy shots) of allergic rhinitis caused by common allergens after initiation of treatment by a Board Certified Allergist.
