Western Regional Medical Command

Mission: Evaluate and treat mental disorders.

Scope of Practice: Evaluate active duty Army personnel to assess mental fitness for duty at the request of command. Recommend soldiers for security clearances, special military schools or special assignment options as specified in regulations. Perform sanity evaluations for selected courts-martial cases and command-directed mental health evaluations. Provide treatment, upon the soldier's (patient) request, through individual counseling, therapy and pharmacotherapy interventions. Provide medical supervision of inpatient treatment through cooperative arrangement with Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Provide treatment for selected family members of soldiers to the extent resources are available. Provide limited consultation services as available to Army Hospital pediatric clinics for children of soldiers. Encourage utilization of TRICARE resources for treatments or evaluations of family members and retirees not supportable by clinic resources. Provide consultation to commanders on issues of mental fitness and referral process for soldiers.
