Parkersburg Riverfront Park Dedication Oct. 21

Representative from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, and the City of Parkersburg will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially dedicate the new Riverfront Park at 11 a.m. on Oct. 21, 2011.

The completed construction includes several additions to the park, including a traffic circle at the entrance, a riverboat landing, an amphitheatre, restrooms and an expanded parking area. The modern facility is suited for special events, riverboat travelers or simply enjoying the river.

Total project costs were over $10 Million. TAB Construction Company performed the work on the project.

Corps of Engineers to Release Additional Water from Flannagan Dam

   The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will release additional water Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, in addition to the normal whitewater releases Saturday, Oct. 15, and Sunday, Oct. 16 from the John W. Flannagan Dam in Haysi, Va., in support of the USA Wildwater National Time Trials on the Russell Fork River in Elkhorn City, Ky.

    During the first four full weekends in October, Flannagan Dam releases water for whitewater on the Pound and Russell Fork Rivers as part of its normal drawdown to bring the lake level behind the dam to its winter pool to allow additional rainwater storage in the spring.

Park at Marmet Locks and Dam Temporarily Closed

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, has temporarily closed the picnic area at the Marmet Locks and Dam in Belle, W.Va., while repairs are made to a broken water line.

    The fishing pier is not affected by the closure. A notice will be sent out as soon as the park reopens.
