Corps Will Not Charge a Day Use Fee at R.D. Bailey Lake

     Huntington, W.Va. –  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will no longer charge a Day Use Fee for the use of the boat ramp at the Guyandotte Point Recreation Area at R.D. Bailey Lake, near Justice, W.Va., effective immediately. 

 

     All camping and visitor fees at the Guyandotte Campground and all reservation fees for group picnic shelters located on the lake still apply.

 

     The Corps will continue to honor the Annual Day Use Pass at its other lakes nationwide where fees are currently charged for the use of Corps-managed boat ramps and swimming beaches.

Volunteers Clean Up at Bluestone Lake

     To prepare for National Safe Boating Week, which runs through Friday, May 24, 2013, volunteers gathered over the weekend to help spruce up Bluestone Lake near Hinton, W.Va.

 

     The cleanup took place on May 17 and 18, 2013. Volunteers collected 94 bags of trash, 42 tires, four television sets, four small boats, and one outhouse.

 

     Agencies involved in the effort included the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, W.Va. State Parks (Bluestone State Park), W. Va. Department of Environmental Protection and AmeriCorps.

Kid’s Fishing Day to be held at Yatesville Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold its 5th Annual Kids Fishing Day at Yatesville Lake State Park Marina from 9 a.m.to noon on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the most fish caught and the biggest fish caught based on three age divisions. Participants can bring their own fishing pole, or fishing poles and bait will be available for use. A free lunch will be provided by local sponsors.

Any child through age 16 is eligible to participate in this event. Children are required to be under the supervision of a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.

New Traffic Restrictions at East Fork Campground

     The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced new traffic restrictions on the bridge leading to East Fork Campground at East Lynn Lake. The bridge will now be one lane and vehicles are limited to six tons. Campers, boaters and visitors to the day use facilities need to be aware of these restrictions.

     All vehicles traveling across the bridge located on East Fork Road just south of W. Va. State Route 37 are subject to these new restrictions. The bridge has been reduced to a single 12-foot-wide lane with a maximum allowable load of six tons. This is the only way to access East Fork Campground. The East Fork campground will open on Friday, May 10, 2013.
