Morale Welfare and Recreation

Army MWR is a comprehensive network of support and leisure services designed to enhance the lives of soldiers (active, Reserve, and Guard), their families, civilian employees, military retirees and other eligible participants. Over 37,000 MWR employees worldwide strive to deliver the highest quality programs and services at each installation -- from family, child and youth programs to recreation, sports, entertainment, travel and leisure activities.

Their mission is to serve the needs, interests and responsibilities of each individual in the Army community for as long as they are associated with the Army, no matter where they are.

MWR contributes to the Army’s strength and readiness by offering services that reduce stress, build skills and self-confidence and foster strong esprit de corps. MWR is proof of the Army’s commitment to caring for the people who serve and stand ready to defend the nation.

Recreation

Whitaker Place Campground

The Whitaker Place Campground has 33 Class A sites and six Primitive Sites. Amenities at the campground include shower and laundry facilities, high-speed internet access, restrooms, and a recreation area. An outdoor play area, a fishing pond and overhead shelter make this an ideal area to camp. All campsites are scheduled at Bldg 402 or by telephone: (812) 526.1128.

MockingBird Hill and Rock Picnic Area

Shelter house picnic areas are available by reservation for gatherings and unit parties. For more information call (812) 526.1499 ext. 61820 or (812) 526.1499 extension 62954. 

MG Carl G. Farrell Recreation Area (cabins and campgrounds)

Atterbury's newly built cabins are secluded with lake access. These beautiful cabins, located in the MG Carl G. Farrell Recreation Area, have two bedrooms, a full size kitchen, dining room, living room, washer and dryer, TV/VCR, gas fireplace, and a patio.  Reservations may be made no earlier than the first working day of the month prior to the month you want to rent the cabin.  Reservations may be no longer than seven consecutive days at one time.  To reserve a Cabin, click the link below to make an online reservation or call the Reservations Desk at (812) 526.1128. Reservations are confirmed approximately 14 days prior to the reservation date.

Indoor/Outdoor Recreation

Community Center

The Atterbury community center is located in building 231. This multi-use facility is available for use for parties, unit ceremonies, wedding receptions and any other event. The facility has its own restrooms, bar, dining room area, patio, and kitchen. The perfect venue for your next event. For more information (812) 526.1499 ext. 61592

Softball Field

The field is available by reservation for games, equipment available at outdoor recreation equipment center. To reserve the softball field, a minimum of 3 days notice is needed to set up and for equipment pick up.   For more information and reservations, call the Gymnasium (812) 526.1499 ext. 62952.

Golf Driving Range

Located behind bldg 225, the Atterbury driving range is available Monday through Friday. Golf club sets are available at outdoor recreation equipment center. For more information, call (812) 526.1499, ext. 62952.

Fishing and Hunting

Fishing is available all year with a valid license. To obtain an in-season permit and/or license for both hunting and fishing, contact Range Control at (812) 526.1499, ext. 1351.

Sports and Fitness

Fitness Center

The Atterbury Fitness Center, located in building 329, offers a wide variety of services to fit your needs such as personal trainers, exercise development to reach specific goals, and nutritional counseling. The center has one basketball court, aerobics area, one volleyball net, free weights, aerobic machines, and shower facilities on site. It is open daily from 0630-1800 hrs. For more information (812) 526.1499 ext 62952.

Muscatatuck Fitness Center

Muscatatuck's Fitness Center is located at building 54. Hours of operation 0500-2300.

Outdoor Recreation Equipment Center

Need equipment for your next recreation activity? Whether you need equipment for basketball, baseball, golf, softball, football, tennis, bikes, tents, horseshoes, grills, boats, canoes, and other outdoor recreation equipment, the equipment center can be found in building 329 after 0800 Monday and before 1600 on Friday. Swimming Pool

The outdoor swimming pool, located in building 320, comes with a slide and children’s pool available during the summer for Military, Military family members, Camp Atterbury employees, and Military Retirees. The hours are 1200 - 2000 daily. For more information (812) 526.1499, ext. 61952. 

The pool is open from 0700-100 for unit training.  To reserve the pool for unit training call 812-526-1499, ext. 61952.
