The Hunters
Every year, thousands of local and regional hunters visit the installation. We experience 40,000 to 50,000 hunter-attempts per year! Between the 120 separate hunting areas on Fort Stewart and the 11 areas on Hunter AAF, there's always enough room to accommodate all theses hunters.
A hunter with a nice white-tailed buck! Georgia offers a long deer hunting season, running from the middle of September to early January. Fort Stewart offers special seasons and areas for bow and muzzleloader hunting. |
Fort Stewart maintains an excellent safety record. When all areas are open, the installation can accommodate over 2,300 hunters. The installation permits the use of bird dogs, and squirrel dogs. |
Feral hogs offer variety to the hunting experience at Fort Stewart. This is a "feral" species which means that it is a domesticated hog that has "turned wild" after several generations of "wandering through the woods" of southeast Georgia. |
