History:
The 6th BN (MI), 98th DIV (IT) originated in 1978 when a small cadre of instructors and administrative personnel from the 99th ASA (Army Security Agency) Co., Fort Meade, MD, decided Fort Devens would be an ideal place for Reserve Training in Military Intelligence. The 505th ASA BN, located at Fort Devens, actively developed lesson plans and programs of instruction with an emphasis on intelligence support to tactical operations. By 1980, students from across the country were accepted into MOS acquisition courses, particularly the communication security custodian training. In 2005, soldiers from 6th BN deployed to support the training of the new Iraqi Army in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2005, the unit passed a rigorous certification program and became accredited under the Total Army School System. The unit goal to provide reserve forces the best training possible continue to be met in outstanding fashion by the soldiers of the 6th BN (MI).
