Community Relations Program

The National Training Center Community Relations Program is coordinated and administered by the Public Affairs Office. Requests for a color guard, volunteers or equipment support are received and staffed in accordance with applicable directives. Eligible community relations events are supported whenever feasible, on a not-to-interfere with training or operations basis. Call the Public Affairs Office at (760) 380-4511 or email Community Relations Officer.
Thank you for considering Fort Irwin for your special event. Please provide specific details for your event request to include who the requesting agency is, what is being requested, where the event is being held, the purpose of the event or why and when the event is being held. All Community Relations event requests require 45 days notice in order to be considered.

While we strive support all requests, there are certain requirements requestors should understand prior to requesting assets.

First, real-world incidences and training requirements may diminish the Army’s ability to support all public events and aircraft requests submitted and scheduled, so assignments are subject to cancellation at the last moment to care for the nation’s defense.

Second, Armed Forces participation in public events will be at no additional cost to the government based on Department of Defense policies. The event sponsor is required to pay, when necessary, the standard military services allowance for quarters and meals for all military servicemembers and for others which have been determined in advance and agreed to by the sponsor.

Finally, units are organized for ceremonial and traditional purposes and in support of recruiting activities. For some public activities, however, they may be authorized to provide certain specified presentations, such as patriotic programs. They are not permitted to provide entertainment, background, dinner, dance or social music for public or private events in competition with the customary or regular employment of local civilian musicians. Limited resources permit only one musical unit to perform at an event, and the Armed Forces reserve the right to cancel support to sponsors who have scheduled more than one such military unit.
