Southern California District Veterinary Command - Mojave Veterinary Branch

Here at the Fort Irwin Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF), we strive to provide the utmost in compassionate quality medical and surgical care for each of our patients. We are deeply committed to maintaining the human-animal bond and to affording all pets and their families the best possible quality of life.

We are located at 977 Critter Pathway behind Sgt Fuzzbuddy’s and across from the Commissary parking lot. Our hours of operation are: Monday-Friday from 0830-1630. We try to have appointments three days a week with the other two days set aside for surgery and soldier training. We are closed in observance of all Federal Holidays and from 1330-1630 on the last business day of every month for inventory. We try to post all closings on the post MWR website, with a sign on our front door, as well as on the clinic answering machine.

Our clinic is a limited treatment facility, and as a courtesy to military family members, we offer routine examinations and vaccinations, laboratory diagnostics, radiology, surgery (including, but not limited to spaying and neutering) and dental cleaning and care as appointments become available. All of the aforementioned services are by appointment only and all pets must be registered prior to receiving services.

Pet registration for on-post housing can be completed on Wednesday afternoons and all day on Thursdays. Please have your new housing address and duty assignment, as well as your staff duty phone number with you for complete registration. It is post policy for all privately owned animals to be micro-chipped. If your pet(s) needs to be micro-chipped, please bring them with you when you come in to register.

While we make every effort to see pets for both routine and urgent issues in a timely manner, the veterinarian is tasked with many other things which include, but are not limited to, providing veterinary care for all government owned animals, performing a variety of food inspection across Southern California, attending all required training as a Soldier/Army Officer, performing inspections at all animal facilities on Fort Irwin and MCLB, running a stray facility and lastly providing care for privately owned animals. Unfortunately, these various duties may cause our veterinarian to be unavailable for appointments in order to meet the current mission. Scheduled appointments are subject to change at a moment’s notice if our veterinarian is called away to support that mission.

We understand that due to its remote location, residents of Ft. Irwin (our customers) rely more heavily on the VTF here for extended veterinary services for their pets; we attempt to provide the best level of care possible with our limited resources in order to support this community. There will still be times when there is no Veterinary Corp Officer (VCO) on post or available, so residents of Ft. Irwin need to be aware that there will be times when it will be necessary to seek veterinary care at civilian veterinary clinics.

We have an after-hours emergency phone which can be called for threats to life, limb, or eyesight only. We reserve this service for emergencies where your animal cannot make it in time to be driven to an off-post veterinarian. It is at the veterinarian’s discretion of what constitutes a life-threatening emergency. We will do everything we can to stabilize your pet and we may recommend transporting him or her to another clinic as we do not provide 24-hour care/supervision in our facility. If the veterinarian is not on post, residents will once again need to seek care off post. The closest clinics are located in Barstow and the Victorville area. The closest emergency clinics are:
