Scheduling an appointment at CAPTEC

To schedule an appointment at CAPTEC, please call 703-693-5160 or email cap.captec@mail.mil.  CAPTEC operating hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00AM to 4:00PM and Friday by appointment.

Getting to CAPTEC

All visitors are encouraged to arrive at the Pentagon via Metro; it is the easiest and most reliable means of transportation, as well as the closest.  Currently this is the only entrance through which visitors may enter.  There is no visitor parking at the Pentagon.  Take Metro Rail's Blue or Yellow line to Pentagon (not Pentagon City).

Once you exit the turnstiles from the train, take the escalators (the Southside escalators) to your left, or the elevator to your right, up to the street level.  Once at the street level, you will find signage that directs you to the visitor processing center, which is immediately to your right as you step off the Southside escalators.

Before you enter the Visitor Center, please be sure that you have at least one of the following forms of identification with you:

  • State Driver's License, Enhanced Driver’s License or Non-Driver's Identification Card

  • US Government Common Access Card, Military Identification Card, or Personal Identification Verification Card

  • State Licenses from the following are NOT Real ID compliant and will not be accepted:

    • American Samoa

    • Illinois

    • Minnesota**

    • Missouri

    • Washington**

** Enhanced Driver’s License accepted

  • US Passport or Passport Card

  • No identification is required for children age 17 and under when accompanied by an adult with a DoD Building Pass or one of the above forms of identification.

  • A listing of other options forms of identification can be found at http://www.pfpa.mil/access.html.

Once you have verified that you have the proper identification, please enter the Visitor Center and follow any direction provided by visitor center personnel; you will be directed to proceed to an open window where you will be asked to provide pertinent identifiable information. You will then be given an appropriate visitor badge. After you have been authorized to proceed, all persons and their belongings will be screened. Please keep your badge at-hand.

When you have entered the interior Visitor Waiting Area, please call CAPTEC at 703-693-5160. CAPTEC staff will meet you and will utilize your visitor badge to verify your visitor access privileges. DoD Common Access Card (CAC) holders do not require an escort, unless otherwise indicated, and may proceed directly to room 2D1049, directly across from both the Hall of Heroes and Pentagon Federal Credit Union.

Visitors who require the use of elevators to access the Metro subway system are urged to consult the Metro website (www.wmata.com) to get updates on elevator outages and information on issues related to accessibility. Please be aware that security procedures at the Pentagon can change without notice.

Please be aware that the process to obtain a visitor badge can vary in duration depending upon the number of visitors being processed. The appointment process at CAPTEC is very similar to the appointment process at your doctor's office. CAPTEC serves the employees of DoD and 69 federal agencies. Appointments are in high demand, and we typically schedule 2 weeks or more in advance.

If you can't keep your appointment, we request the courtesy of a notification by phone or email as soon as possible. If you fail to show for a scheduled assessment or demonstration and do not let us know, we cannot schedule other appointments or make use of that time, causing unnecessary delays for all of our customers. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
